'Could you set up a downtime recording system for us, because we want to gain insight into the idle times of our machines?' This is the kind of question that is often at the beginning of quite a few MOMS projects. But as soon as we start looking underneath the surface, it turns out that the registration of downtime alone is not the biggest problem, and certainly not the solution for the highest ROI. But these are exactly the kind of questions that can lead to the implementation of an end-to-end MOM-system (Manufacturing Operations Management System).
